The Facility Attendant I position works across multiple UVic recreational facilities.
Work Schedule:
- Sunday 1:30pm-9:30pm CARSA/Fields
- Monday 3:30pm-11:30pm CARSA/Fields
- Tuesday 4:00pm-12am Ice Rink
- Wednesday 6:00pm-2am Ice Rink
- Thursday 3:30pm-11:30pm CARSA/Fields
Reliable transportation is essential due to limited public transit during late night hours.
Job Summary
Primary responsibilities of a Facility Attendant I are to monitor and facilitate the daily operations of the CARSA, Ian Stewart Complex, McKinnon Building, Centennial Stadium, and the Playing Fields.
Under general supervision, assists in the operation of physical education and recreational facilities and in the maintenance of athletic and recreation equipment. Prepares, issues, repairs and stows athletic and recreational equipment. Monitors and controls the use of facilities by authorized individuals according to policy and procedure.

Under general supervision, the FA I is responsible to the Facility Supervisor; liaises daily with the Facility Attendant II, receiving instructions regarding assigned duties; plans, executes daily schedule within authorized policy and procedure; work is monitored for compliance.

Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students and other authorized users of the facilities.

Supervises employees in lower classifications on designated shift.
In addition, with the emphasis on customer service, we are responsible to provide superior customer service to students, staff, faculty and the University community. Our customers look to us as the primary source of information and customer service regarding program registration, facility usage, equipment, bookings, rentals, membership, and intramural information, varsity athletic and special events.
Job Requirements
Skills
- Basic key boarding and data entry skills for customer service transactions;
- Demonstrated customer service abilities in high volume (periodic) demanding environment.
- Sufficient strength and stamina for constant mobility, bending, lifting (60 lbs) and reaching.
Specialized Knowledge/Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Standard first aid
- Aquatic Emergency Assist (AEA) training
- Arena Ice Maker or Ice Facility Operator
- Knowledge and experience in operating ice resurfacer;
- Knowledge of sports and recreation facility and equipment needs;
- Knowledge of computer programs, recreation management software, Microsoft Office and email programs;
- Knowledge and application of equipment maintenance practices for maintenance, repair and cleaning;
- Knowledge and application of building maintenance practices for maintenance, repair and cleaning
Experience:
- A minimum of two years' experience as a Facility Equipment Room Attendant II or equivalent athletic and recreational experience.
