Overview The Saskatchewan Research Council’s (SRC) Environmental Analytical Laboratories has an opening for a Lead Lab Tech to support the Specialized Projects, Tests, and Preparations Section. As a Lead, this role will delegate daily tasks, support training of lab team members, assist in troubleshooting, perform various analytical sample preparations, and ensure a positive client experience.

Accountabilities

  • Organize and delegate tasks within the Specialized Projects, Tests, and Preparations area of the lab
  • Provide guidance and training to lab employees
  • Communicate with clients to obtain sample-related information and advise clients of sample status
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, methods, and procedures related to particle size distribution, density, flash point, and viscosity
  • Review data and consult with clients on sample issues
  • Perform a broad range of analytical techniques and sample preparation procedures including gravimetric determinations, titrations, drying, pulverizing, filtration, and various leaching procedures
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as required

Qualifications

  • A Chemical Technology Diploma with 3-5 years of analytical chemistry laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 requirements, quality assurance protocols, and the use of statistics and method validation protocols is preferred
  • Qualified Person designation under the Saskatchewan Environmental Code, or meets the requirements to apply
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel

  • Ability to manage time effectively while being flexible and adaptable
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate a team to provide excellent service to clients
  • Commitment to safety as a top priority

The chosen candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.

This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
