Description What you’ll be doing

Organization: Ben Stelter School Fundraiser (BSSF)

Volunteer Role: Creative Writer

Role Manager: Director of Marketing (TBD)

Role Overview: The Creative Writer will be responsible for creating engaging blog posts and articles for the Ben Stelter School Fundraiser, using tools such as Medium. This role focuses on written storytelling and informative content that highlights the impact of the fundraiser, student leadership, school involvement, major milestones, and the mission of bringing proton therapy to Canada. Writers will help amplify our message, celebrate community efforts, and communicate our cause to a wider audience.

Applicants must be in Grade 7 or above and no older than students entering Grade 12 during the 2026–2027 school year. This role will begin in the spring with light onboarding and planning, with the busiest period running from September to December.

Role Timeline: The role duration is from April 2026 – January 2027. The role starts off with light training and writing in the spring months and becomes more active during the fall fundraiser period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write clear, engaging blog posts and articles for the BSSF
  • Create content highlighting student leaders, participating schools, donors, sponsors, and major prizes.
  • Help tell the story of the fundraiser’s impact and its mission to support proton therapy in Canada.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and social media teams to align written content with ongoing campaigns.
  • Edit and revise content based on feedback from the team
  • Maintain a consistent tone that aligns with the fundraiser’s branding and values.

Requirements:

  • Strong written communication skills and an interest in storytelling or journalism.
  • Organized and able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to collaborate with a team and take direction from the Role Manager.
