Description
The Data Architect is critical in defining, executing and managing data architecture domain to ensure project, security, technical and strategic objectives are met. The role provides leadership and expertise across architecture design, governance, security, and modernization—ensuring alignment with GoA standards and business needs.
Working closely with stakeholders, the role leads design/development of overarching data requirements and establishes principles, strategies, architectures, methods, models, standards and plans needed to provision data for the solution. They will establish a secure, high performing, analytics ready data architecture that supports operations, enterprise reporting and advanced analytics.

Experience Required/Mandatory Skills
Degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related field of study in Canada, or foreign credentials certified by Immigration Canada, IQAS or any accreditation acceptable to the Government of Canada or Alberta.
Experience as a Data Architect planning, designing, documenting and implementing enterprise data architectures for large complex cloud-based application development projects in an environment equivalent in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta.
Experience designing solutions that enable complex reporting and analytics in Power BI
Experience developing and presenting complex data concepts, recommendations and decisions in an easy-to-understand manner to non‑technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
Experience developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models aligned with enterprise data policies including within Microsoft Dataverse.
Experience implementing data management platforms/solutions and applying enterprise architecture principles, methods, standards, tools and best practices.
Experience leading the definition of detailed data mapping and data migration activities for large enterprise implementations.
Experience with data transformation and data orchestration techniques
Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365, including how data is managed across the Dynamics platform and in the Microsoft Cloud ecosystem
Nice To Have Skills
Certification in The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF).
Active Azure certificates: AZ-305.
Experience applying enterprise data architecture principles, methods, standards, tools and best practices.
Experience as a Data Architect planning, designing, documenting and implementing enterprise data architectures for large complex cloud-based application development projects in an environment equivalent in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta.
Experience defining data architecture for large/complex Financial enterprise solutions/systems.
Experience developing and presenting complex data concepts, recommendations and decisions in an easy-to-understand manner to non‑technical stakeholders and senior leadership
Experience developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models aligned with enterprise data policies including within Microsoft Dataverse.
Experience in Agile Projects
Experience in performing security, threat and risk assessments including defining mitigations.
Experience leading and coaching data and project teams through large-scale implementations including data readiness, data quality, data storage.
Experience leading and designing data migration activities for large-scale implementations from legacy application to cloud in Azure.
Experience with data transformation and data orchestration techniques and tools, including ETL/ELT, data quality and metadata management
Experience with enterprise business intelligence products such as Microsoft Power BI
Experience with Microsoft tools to create a modern data warehouse (e.g. Azure Services such as Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric for big data processing, analytics, and data warehousing)
Experience working in or for the public sector.
Experience working with implementing a SQL data warehouse.
Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365, including how data is structured, stored, integrated and managed across the Dynamics platform and in the Microsoft Cloud ecosystem (Power Platform, Azure, Microsoft Fabric).
