Clinical Engineering Technician {OPSEU C-26-027}
About the role
**Position: Clinical Engineering Technician
Department: Clinical Engineering** The role of the Clinical Engineering Technician is to provide safe, effective and economical healthcare. The primary responsibility is the implementation of Medical Device Technology Services including adherence to recognized safety, quality, cost and efficiency standards. This mid-level technician has a number of years of experience servicing progressively more sophisticated medical equipment including items such as instrument washers, sterilizers, electric hospital bed, and patient over bed lifts, renal water systems and nurse call systems.
Responsibilities:
- Repairs and maintains all non-diagnostic hospital equipment according to manufacturers’ specifications (patient beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, parking machines, renal reverse osmosis systems, patient lift systems, MDRD equipment, and any other non-diagnostic equipment as required)
- Perform incoming inspections/installation/commissioning of new equipment and decommissioning of old equipment as required
- Coordination of outside contractors, vendors, agencies and other departments
- Participate in capital equipment planning and trial/evaluation of new equipment
- Order parts/materials needed to repair/maintain hospital equipment
- Acquires the training and knowledge necessary to repair and service new and existing medical equipment
- Performs preventative maintenance tasks, maintains excellent records, and participates in department and hospital quality programs and initiatives
- Maintain/ update the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Project work and other duties as assigned
- Participate in on-call rotation
Qualifications Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
- Graduate from a 2-3-year Engineering Technician/Technology program and/or a combination of other technical/ mechanical/ plumbing/ electrical/ training required
- 3-5 years of recent maintenance experience in a hospital or clinical environment required
- Applicable experience/training with electronic hospital beds, patient lifts, instrument washers, sterilizers and reverse osmosis water units an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronics, medical instrumentation, troubleshooting, and recognized standards required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively in a team environment
- Ability to provide leadership and support with hospital equipment within the facility and off-site locations
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines required
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully with employees and clients required
- Membership with the Ontario College of Trades or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) preferred
- Excellent attendance and work record required, with references
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure own safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset

It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario
NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.
NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.
