Research Associates:

Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with researchers and faculty members, positions at this level apply extensive knowledge in their field to perform high-level, complex research activities, and will normally hold a Master’s degree. Individuals with training beyond a Master’s degree who have limited experience may also be appointed into this classification level.

Position Overview:

A Research Associate position is available for a project focused on developing a blood test for colorectal screening. Dr. Shrivastav’s team has identified novel biomarkers for the detection of colorectal adenomas and cancer. This study is a clinical trial that involves recruiting participants from the colorectal cancer screening population and collecting blood samples. The blood samples will be processed in Dr. Shrivastav’s laboratory, where the expression of the biomarkers will be evaluated.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement experiments, data collection protocols, and standards.
  • Determine the appropriate methodology to carry out identified research goals.
  • Recruit research participants.
  • Conduct high-level and complex academic research and literature searches.
  • Collect and manage research data, conduct advanced analysis of research results and document findings.
  • Interpret research findings and perform editorial tasks.
  • Present project status and findings in scientific conferences.
  • Identify and assist in securing funding opportunities; prepare and submit documentations required by funding agencies.
  • Support project procurement and staff supervision.
  • Contribute to overall activities and internal operations related to the research project.
  • Perform other duties, including administrative support, as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • PhD with equivalent qualifications and experience
  • Experience conducting independent research
  • Experience leading research projects
  • Analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
