About the role
An opportunity to step into quantum!
Our client is building one of the world's most advanced quantum computing platforms, using fiber-based optical architecture as the foundation of their qubit and networking infrastructure. As they scale from research-grade systems into production-ready hardware, they're looking for a Senior Optical Engineer to help design, build, and validate the precision optical subsystems that sit at the heart of the platform.
This is a hands-on, onsite, engineering role for someone who wants to work at the intersection of telecom-grade fiber optics and next-generation quantum hardware.
What You'll Do
Develop and validate precision fiber-optic subsystems, including single-photon transmission networks and O-band light source modules Help mature designs from early prototypes into stable, manufacturable hardware ready for scaled output Contribute to how optical links are architected, how they're tested, and how in-system monitoring and control feedback loops are built Run performance characterization using standard lab test equipment, backed by solid data analysis Partner across physics, systems, and hardware disciplines, plus outside vendors, to turn lab-grade optics into field-ready product Work through a complete build cycle, from initial requirements to final delivery, on a predictable schedule
What You'll Bring
Graduate-level degree (Master's or PhD) in Optics, Photonics, Physics, or a related Engineering discipline 3+ years working in an industry setting such as telecom infrastructure or data center hardware Direct, hands-on background building fiber-based systems in the C- or O-band range, spanning early feasibility work through to full-scale manufacturing Comfort with lab instrumentation and structured data analysis to assess and troubleshoot optical performance Working knowledge of optical simulation, modeling, or design software Demonstrated history of pushing fiber-optic innovation into real-world, adopted products
Nice to Have
Exposure to patent filings, IP strategy, or bringing new technology to market Time spent in a fast-moving startup or scale-up setting Coding ability in Python or similar scripting languages Experience with CAD or photonic design tools such as Solidworks, Lumerical, or Altium
