The AESO is undergoing a transformative restructuring of Alberta’s electricity market through the Restructured Energy Market (REM) program—a multi-year, enterprise-wide initiative focused on implementing a new Market Management System (MMS) and integrating it with other mission-critical systems and processes across the organization. The MMS will enable the AESO to operate the Alberta electricity market with greater efficiency and reliability ensuring power gets to where it needs to be at the right time and cost.
Reporting to the Manager, Market Management Systems, you will join our team as a Senior Functional Business Analyst, bringing a strong background in the electric utility sector and deep experience in complex system implementations and product management. You will play a key role in the implementation of the MMS and transition to the product team for ongoing operations across the lifecycle of the system, ensuring it continues to meet evolving organizational needs while delivering value across the market. Experience with GE Vernova products (MMS) is highly desirable.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Requirements & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead stakeholder workshops to elicit, document and validate business requirements
- Translate business needs into clear and actionable functional specifications
- Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, technical team members and vendors
- Facilitate alignment and decision making across stakeholder groups
- Proven ability to engage and foster collaboration with cross functional teams; business, technical, training, communications
Product, Process & Design
- Define and manage product backlog, epics, user stories; supporting SCRUM and Product Management principles
- Develop and maintain end-to-end process diagrams; outlining as-is and defining to-be functionality to support the design and delivery
- Identification of gaps, risks and opportunities for process and system enhancements
- Support design validation by reviewing and revising vendor deliverables for alignment with product requirements
- Leverage expertise of product delivery and management across discovery, design and delivery
Testing, Delivery & Readiness
- Contribute to System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and support issue triage and resolution
- Support organizational and operational readiness, training and change management activities
- Contribute to cutover planning and go-live readiness
Data, Documentation & Ongoing Operations
- Analyze data and to support KPIs and business insights across design and delivery
- Maintain comprehensive documentation across deliverables and product activities
- Provide ongoing support and enhancement of the MMS product as part of the product management lifecycle

What you’ll bring to us:
- Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in business analysis or related role
- Experience delivering within large-scale, complex system implementations – properly assessing and escalating issues, as needed
- Experience across both project and product management SDLC delivery
- Experience in both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies; with strong aptitude in sprints and ceremonies (i.e. standup, sprint planning, retrospectives)
- Strong applied technical acumen (systems, data, integrations, APIs)
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques (e.g. SQL, Excel, visualization tools)
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps / Modern Requirements or similar
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts across diverse audiences
- Proven ability to establish strong business and cross-functional relationships
- Quick learner, with demonstrated capacity to manage a significant amount of detail and complexity
- Adaptability and resilience to respond to evolving priorities and timelines

As the province moves away from coal-fired power plants, we're enabling investment in renewable energy. In everything we do, our eye is always on the future.
