Make a Meaningful Impact on the Future of Indigenous Education
Yukon University is seeking a thoughtful, well-organized, and relationship-driven Rideau Hall Coordinator to support a Yukon-wide initiative focused on increasing the number of Indigenous K–12 teachers across the territory.
Funded by the Rideau Hall Foundation, this term role supports Indigenous student success in YukonU’s Bachelor of Education programs — both the Yukon Native Teacher Education Program (YNTEP) and the After-Degree program. You’ll work closely with partners at the Yukon First Nation School Board (FNSB) and the Yukon First Nation Education Directorate (YFNED) to ensure that Indigenous learners are supported every step of the way.
About the Role
This is a hands-on coordination role that blends community engagement, student support, and project management. You’ll be responsible for organizing and delivering key activities funded through the Rideau Hall initiative — including student outreach, rural practicums, and community-based courses — all with the goal of welcoming more Indigenous students into the teaching profession.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate initiatives that increase Indigenous student recruitment, enrollment, and retention in Education programs at YukonU
- Offer guidance and support to current and prospective Indigenous education students
- Work closely with faculty, staff, and First Nations education partners to deliver programming rooted in community needs
- Travel regularly to Yukon communities to support local program delivery and build relationships
- Serve as the main point of contact for the Rideau Hall Foundation and maintain effective reporting and communication
- Maintain program-related records, supplies, and web content
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in post-secondary education, Indigenous education, program coordination, or community engagement
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous education contexts, priorities, and approaches, particularly within Yukon communities
- Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous governments, organizations, or education partners
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities and stakeholders effectively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and comfort working with databases, websites, and reporting tools
Assets
- Familiarity with post-secondary administrative processes, funding/reporting requirements, and event coordination
- Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history, culture, and governance structures
- Experience supporting Indigenous students in post-secondary education programs
- Experience maintaining web content and managing project-related records and materials
Yukon University is committed to the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply; however qualified candidates who self-identify as Yukon first Nations, as well as Metis, Inuit or other Indigenous ancestry will be given priority.
