Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Undergraduate degree in in communications or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of university regulations, programs and procedures as they relate to the function/program.
EXPERIENCE:
- Two years of directly-related administrative experience required.
- Two years directly related experience working in communications, marketing, public relations, social media and editing required.
- Experience in writing, editing and interviewing is required.
- Experience in project management is required.
- Experience in digital marketing and social media.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Experience in design and layout an asset.
- Knowledge of the University of Manitoba regulations and experience in an academic environment preferred.
- Experience in a research, science, medical, or health environment preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and diplomacy to work collaboratively with all levels of faculty, staff, students and the public is required.

Demonstrated competence to create a variety of presentations/publications using software/content management systems such as PowerPoint is required.

Demonstrated ability to organize content, modify images (scanning, Photoshop) and use web content management systems (e.g. Drupal, Word Press) is required.

Experience with digital communications and social media is required.

Experience in marketing and promotion on social media is required.

Ability to undertake special administrative projects as required.

Thorough understanding of branding and messaging is required.

Key responsibilities
COMMUNICATIONS:
- Produces written content for various platforms, such as Rady UM Today network, RadyUM magazine, media releases, SharePoint, PowerPoints, speaking notes, annual reports, brochures, posters, event programs, advertisements, digital materials, and e-newsletters through interviewing, researching, writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Promotes the reputation of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences by actively seeking out story ideas regarding faculty, researcher, staff, learner and alumni news and achievements.
- Establishes, develops and maintains knowledge of researchers’ areas of expertise to promote externally.
- Promotes on multiple platforms the accomplishments and initiatives of faculty, staff and learners and faculty/colleges/units that align with the Rady Faculty strategic priorities.
- Provides media relations support for the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and colleges/units within the RFHS, following up with media requests, arranging interviews and preparing interviewees to advance Rady’s reputation and gain earned media at the local and national level.
- Reviews and fact-checks content to ensure clarity, accuracy and alignment to UM’s standards and priorities.
- Translates complex research or health care information to produce written content understandable to a lay audience.
- Applies different writing styles for various platforms, such as print, digital platforms, advertising, marketing and communications.
- Develops strategic communications and marketing plans for initiatives/events to meet the goals and objectives of colleges and units within Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.
- Manages projects by creating outlines and timelines, working with clients, graphic designer, photographer and vendors to ensure projects are executed effectively and efficiently.
- Collaborates with clients to understand their needs, objectives and preferences for each project while adhering to UM standards.
- Maintains effective communication with all clients to ensure client satisfaction.
- Ensures compliance with industry standards such as Canadian Press Style and UM style guide for all written items.
- Drafts and sends announcements on behalf of Rady dean or other leaders to faculty and college-level listservs.
- Coordinates and directs photo shoots using university or freelance photographers to produce images of faculty, students, sites and events for promotional use, ensuring diversity, inclusion and adherence to UM photography guidelines and standards.
- Shoots photographs for a wide range of platforms.
- Works closely with graphic designers and/or external vendors to produce print and digital publications, display units, and promotional items.
- Creates posters, brochures and marketing materials using InDesign and in adherence with UM brand and visual identity guidelines and established Rady branding.
- Liaises and collaborates with central UM strategic communications and marketing brand as required.
WEBSITE:
- Builds and updates web pages, including writing, photo selection and web design within the UM’s Drupal content management system and WordPress.
- Serves as backup for Rady digital content specialist who is the primary web coordinator for RFHS.
- Ensures web content adheres to Canadian Press Style, University brand guidelines, and accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.0.
- Edits, writes, develops and delivers scheduled e-newsletters and announcements to units throughout Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.
OTHER DUTIES**:**
- Supports execution of special events organized by Rady communications & marketing team.
- Participates in a variety of duties associated with the accreditation process and stays informed of accreditation standards as it relates to different programs across Rady Faculty.
- Maintains and updates the procedures manual for this position.
- May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
