Ibex Elevators (Ibex) is a new elevator motion management product company, developed in collaboration with RWDI’s Motioneering team and being launched by RWDI Ventures. Ibex leverages patented technology to help building owners and operators improve tenant comfort, reduce elevator-related complaints, and lower maintenance and lifecycle costs by optimizing elevator movement in alignment with structural and vibration engineering best practices.

Role Overview
Ibex is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer with strong hardware capabilities to take technical ownership of the building motion monitoring and elevator optimization system as it transitions from prototype to commercial product. This position sits at the intersection of: Structural engineering and dynamics Embedded systems Industrial control systems Product development The role will shape the technical evolution of a system that improves building performance and occupant experience in tall buildings worldwide. The successful candidate will document product architecture, address gaps, and assist in the evolution of the product into a scalable platform.
This is a hands-on role responsible for both maintaining the current system Ibex sells and building the next generation of our motion management products.
Key Responsibilities
System Architecture Ownership: assist in documenting the full system architecture, ensure design supports manufacturing approach and help refine product behaviour Embedded Software Ownership: Own and maintain the embedded software, operating systems, network security and communication systems Hardware ownership: Own hardware–software integration, ensuring reliable communication between field devices, controllers, and embedded systems Engage in Future Product Development: support development of new system capabilities
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Education & Experience Bachelor's or master's degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics or another related discipline 7-10+ years' experience in at least one of the following: Embedded systems engineering Industrial control systems Robotics or mechatronics systems Industrial IoT platforms Experience with full system integration is strongly preferred. Technical Skills Hardware: Experience with embedded Systems: Beckhoff/TwinCAT, Linux-based embedded systems, industrial PC configuration, system services and process management, networking and communications protocols System Integration: experience with industrial I/O systems, sensors and instrumentation, signal processing, hardware/software integration Software: Experience with Python. Experience with other languages such as C/C++ are a plus Managing external partnerships: experience working with external partners on manufacturing, electrical design, and QA Nice-to-Have Experience Prior management experience or experience managing external teams Elevator control systems Structural monitoring systems Industrial cybersecurity Cloud-connected industrial systems Experience within startups Personal Attributes Highly practical and hands-on Comfortable working across hardware and software boundaries Able to work with subject matter experts outside their discipline Comfortable with ambiguous and highly fluid early-stage product environments Strong at documenting and structuring complicated systems What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months High end-user satisfaction within early (and growing) list of deployed system Deep understanding of client needs and installation requirements. The full system architecture is documented The embedded software stack is owned and version controlled Security hardening and update mechanisms are implemented The system can be reliably assembled and tested by external manufacturers Roadmap for future development completed Please note, this role requires occasional travel within Canada and the US.
