Job Description: Project Estimator The Project Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Vaughan, ON. This position is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for ICI and grocery retail construction projects, including quantity take-offs, material and labor pricing, and subcontractor bid analysis. Arsenal’s projects will require analysis of drawings and specifications for civil site-works, base building, and interior fit-out applications.
Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, developing budgets and supporting the preparation of tender documents and proposals. The Project Estimator works closely with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to validate pricing assumptions, identify cost-saving opportunities, and mitigate risks. The role also involves communicating alongside the project team and clients to clarify scope, address questions, and ensure estimates align with project objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
· Pre-qualify subcontractors and evaluate all bid proposals. · Estimate construction costs for retail, commercial and government projects. · Respond to subcontractor and management questions regarding costs. · Communicate with Architects the clarification of any issues regarding details within the drawings or specifications. · Attend site visits and walk-throughs for the review of details prior to preparing and submitting formal project quotations. · All costs associated with your travel to and from these sites will be compensated back to you by the Company. · Coordinate with management on cost estimates and project changes. · Manage multiple simultaneous estimation projects with consistent on-time delivery. · Maintain a database of construction estimates and final costs. · Examined overages to ensure future figures were on target. · Receive and evaluate bids from subcontractors. · Monitor ongoing construction costs to assist management. · Submit all bids and budgets by bid deadline. · Maintain good relationships with all subcontractors. · Seek subcontractors for the bidding process relevant to the size of the project. · Ensure proper coverage from subcontractors on closing day. · Follow up submitted bids with Construction Manger on outcome of the final results. · Suggest new ideas for improving the estimating process. · Developed metrics for measuring cost-effectiveness of materials and techniques. · Any additional duties as may assigned from time to time. · You must comply with all company policies, as they are communicated. · You will report directly to Senior Estimator.
QUALIFICATIONS Strong cost management and budgeting skills, with the ability to develop and maintain accurate project cost models. Proficiency in construction estimating and project estimation, including quantity take-offs and analysis of drawings and specifications for civil site-works, base building, and interior fit-out applications. Effective communication skills for collaborating with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. Knowledge of ICI construction practices, building materials, and industry standards; grocery retail experience is an asset. Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work full-time on-site in Vaughan, ON and collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
