Job Summary
The Transload Operator supports safe, efficient material handling by operating heavy equipment and managing key rail activities. The role also maintains a clean, hazard‑free worksite and follows all SOPs and safety protocols to ensure reliable operations.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, adaptable, and competent in equipment operation and basic maintenance tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
- Operate heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, skid steers, railcar movers, and aerial work platforms (AWP).
- Manage rail operations such as rail switches, spur lines, and transload conveyance systems.
- Perform yard and facility housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Complete equipment checklists, inspections, and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs).
- Report equipment issues or malfunctions to the Superintendent or Operations Manager.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and investigations.
- Complete required safety and equipment training or retraining.
- Use all required safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience in a heavy industrial environment operating heavy equipment or rail equipment.
- Flexible mindset with willingness to assist in yard and facility housekeeping.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work safely and follow SOPs.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Work Environment
- Manual labour is required.
- Working outdoors is required year round.
- PPE is required to be worn at all times when working on site.
- Site consists of variations in temperature and noise levels.
- Sensory attention/mental stress can be quite high during high production periods.
