Faculty are placed on the BCGEU salary scale based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement, to an initial maximum of $89,412 per annum

Duties:

Teach all aspects of theory and practical skills required for the Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning Mechanic (RACM) program. Ensure program standards are maintained, prepare and develop course as appropriate, maintain and submit student evaluation and grading. Work in a team approach to deliver both classroom and practical objectives in shop operations while promoting safety standards as a priority. Participate as an active member of the instructional team; and participate in staff meetings as required.

Candidates must maintain subject currency and participate in institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of professional activities within their disciplines, both within and outside the institution.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support, institutional, faculty and department committees, meetings and other initiatives, and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

RACM Interprovincial Certification with a minimum of five years proven Journeyman status working on a broad range of building projects. Proven participation in trade-related professional development relating to new technologies, new industry/instructional developments and trends, and supervisory experience. Completion of Instructor Diploma Program or equivalent (if in progress, maximum two years to completion). Proven ability in classroom management. Willingness to work as part of a program team. Demonstrated excellent communication skills both written and oral. A high level of energy and enthusiasm is essential. Proven positive interpersonal skills in dealing with students. Sensitivity to the needs of a wide variety of students returning to education. Familiarity with computer applications appropriate to an educational setting. The successful applicant will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.

Valid OFA Level 2 Certificate required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum three years demonstrated teaching or training experience or appropriate combination of above. Some supervisory experience. Familiarity with Vancouver Island University programs, policies and procedures.
