About the role
Luxury Retail Vancouver, BC Rotational Shift $65,000 - $75,000 Reporting to the Mechanical Operations Manager & General Manager, the Mechanical Technician is an intermediate-level building technician responsible for providing operational maintenance and technical support as part of the building operations team. The primary objective of this role is to ensure the mechanical and electrical systems are managed and maintained safely, sustainably, and to the highest operational standards. The position may require occasional evening, weekend, and on-call work as part of a rotational schedule.
Mechanical Technician Primary Responsibilities
- Assist trades, contractors, and building management with maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Install, repair, and maintain climate control and other mechanical systems within the building or portfolio.
- Oversee preventive maintenance and unscheduled repairs of HVAC, Building Automation System (BAS), plumbing, lighting, electrical, elevating devices, water treatment, generators, and fire/life safety systems.
- Conduct environmental assessments and prepare related reports.
- Participate in the corporate occupational health and safety program.
- Manage waste, recycling, and hazardous materials processes.
- Monitor computerized control and maintenance management systems.
- Respond to tenant service requests in a timely manner.
- Support insurance and risk management inspections, remedial actions, and reporting.
- Stay current with industry practices, legislative changes, and emerging technologies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Mechanical Technician Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 license in good standing; clean driver’s abstract required.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, Building Automation System (BAS), and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Level 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator certification, or willingness to obtain.
One Of The Following
- 4th Class Power Engineer with at least 3 years’ experience in large commercial/retail facility operations.
- Technical Certificate (C.Tech. or A.ScT.).
- Journeyman Tradesperson (or 3rd/4th year apprentice) – Electrician, Plumber, HVAC/Refrigeration, or Automation & Controls.

- Communication & Relationships – Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization. Professional, self-motivated team player with strong ethics and commitment to growth.
- Time Management & Working Environment – Manages time well, meets deadlines, and adapts to changing priorities. Works effectively under pressure, including in emergency or conflict situations. May perform work in varied conditions, attend after-hours emergencies, and join a rotational on-call schedule. Able to exert moderate physical effort, respond quickly in emergencies, and lift up to 50 lbs as part of essential duties. Reasonable accommodations provided as required by law.
- Organizational Skills – Maintains accurate records and documentation with strong administrative skills.
- Decision-Making – Uses facts, reasoning, and strategic thinking to solve problems and achieve goals.
