Job Description:
Accountabilities:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
- Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
- Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
- Maintain strict confidentially of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
- Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
- May assist with different basic administrative tasks – photocopy activities, greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc. as required.
- May keep a log of different activities.
- Provide general information to visitors.
- Consistently demonstrates empathy and concern for clients/families
- Provides emergency food hampers to clients as needed
- May assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records, as directed
- Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Community Ministries Space.
- Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard procedures
- May be responsible for ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials
- Arranges for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy
- May direct work of volunteers assisting in Community Ministries
- May help prepare/serve community meals in house or on the CRU (food truck)
- Helps with seasonal tasks where needed such as Christmas Hampers/Kettles, Back to School, Coats, for Folks, etc.
- Pathway of Hope Casework:
- Serve as a contact for Pathway of Hope in the assigned region.
- Engage and build rapport with the clients.
- Provide client intake and ongoing assessments to Pathway of Hope participants.
- Perform all aspects of the case management process using the Pathway of Hope framework (pre-screening, intake, assessment, goal planning, action, transition, and follow-up) and utilize Link2Feed as the current Client Management System to record case management actions.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained in accordance with Operating Policy and applicable legislation.
- Assist participants in making connections and accessing community resources, supporting participants as appropriate.
- Provide information and referral services, as needed, to both clients and ineligible participants.
- Attend and participate in trainings and meetings as required by the Ministry Unit, Divisional and Territorial Headquarters.
- Network with other service providers and maintain relationships with community agencies to provide comprehensive services for participants.
- Attend community meetings as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned

External: Funders, Volunteers and the general public
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Responsible for minor financial matters regularly; responsibility for wise use of own resources
- Minor material responsibilities

Working Conditions:
- Working environment is typically in the corps building in generally agreeable conditions and some outdoor duties.
- Some work over weekends and evenings may be required.
- Ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
- May deal with upset people or challenging behaviours.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years.
- CPR, First Aid, Food Safe level 1 and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.
Experience and Knowledge:
- At least three years of previous related experience.
- At least one year of previous experience with broader community engagement (such as events or communications)
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to stay informed about community engagement trends and the organization’s mission and objectives
Skills and Capabilities:
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to stay informed about community engagement trends and the organization’s mission and objectives
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and editing software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong conflict-resolution skills
- Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse population of staff, volunteers, and clients
- Strong administrative, time-management, and organization skills
- Current Driver’s License with driver’s abstract
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $39,345.57 to $49,181.96 with a maximum of $59,018.35.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
