Maintenance Assistant (Temporary)
About the role
Nepean Housing Corporation (NHC) is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to provide general labour support to the Property Services team. This temporary unionized position assists Maintenance Technicians with maintenance, inspections, and general upkeep of NHC housing properties.
This role is ideal for someone with hands-on maintenance experience who enjoys supporting safe and well-maintained communities.
Position Details
-**Position Type:**Temporary, Unionized, 3 month term (with potential extension based on operational needs) -**Hours:**28-40 hours per week -**Location:**Various Nepean Housing Corporation properties in Ottawa -**Reports to:**Property Services Manager -**Union:**CUPE Local 4473 -Rate of Pay:$25.30/hour
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with general property maintenance tasks including painting, drywall repair, minor plumbing, carpentry, and other basic repairs.
- Support maintenance technicians with preventative maintenance activities and work orders.
- Perform groundskeeping and cleaning duties at housing properties.
- Deliver materials, equipment, and notices to various sites.
- Assist with unit inspections including move-in and move-out inspections.
- Support life safety inspections including smoke alarms, CO detectors, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment.
- Maintain inventory of maintenance materials and supplies.
- Assist with preventative maintenance inspections of occupied and vacant units.
- Communicate professionally with tenants regarding maintenance matters when required.
- Carry an on-call phone for emergency maintenance response as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year of related experience in property maintenance, construction, janitorial services, or residential rental environments.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s licence and the ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory criminal record check relevant to the duties of the position.
Working Conditions
This role requires physical work including lifting, moving materials, and working both indoors and outdoors at various housing sites.
