LRT Service Person
About the role
We're looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as LRT Servicepersons at the City of Edmonton. This is a hands-on role where you will be an integral part of ensuring our Light Rail Transit (LRT) vehicles are safe, clean, and ready for service every day. You'll be working in a dynamic environment, performing essential maintenance, inspections, and cleaning tasks that keep our city moving. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys a fast-paced setting and takes pride in a job well done. What will you do? Perform inspections and pre-service checks on light rail vehicles Organize and assemble the trains to meet operational needs Change over vehicles on the mainline, performing "bump ups" or "downs," and moving vehicles on and off the mainline Clean both the interior and exterior of the vehicles and wash parts Vacuum, mop floors, dust, clean windows and complete other related cleaning duties on Light Rail Vehicles Assist Electro Vehicle Mechanics as needed Operate forklift, pressure washer and various other shop tools and equipment Complete administrative procedures and forms to document your work Utilize Fleet Management System Software (SAP) for data and time entry
Minimum Grade 12 High School Diploma with some experience in a mechanical shop environment. A combination of training and experience may be considered Assets: Experience working in the transit industry with electrically powered transit vehicles is considered an asset Knowledge of lubricating requirements of LRT units and related equipment is considered an asset Skills required for success: Mechanical Aptitude: Basic mechanical knowledge and skill in the use and care of tools and equipment are essential Safety Awareness: Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in a shop environment Physical Ability: The physical ability to perform heavy manual labor in various weather and environmental conditions Problem-Solving: The ability to organize and assemble a train to meet operational needs in a fast-paced environment Administrative Skills: The ability to maintain basic records and use software like SAP for data entry, and be able to use Google Suite Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (https://bit.ly/4brRrXm) Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion Conditions of Employment: You must be able to work shifts that cover 7 days a week, 24 hours a day Passing a physical strength evaluation (Functional Ability Recruitment Evaluation test - F.A.R.E.) and a pre-employment City medical examination is a requirement of this position Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position Ability to obtain and maintain an LRT "A" Book License to operate Light Rail Transit Vehicles Work Environment: This is a hands-on role that requires physical effort and takes place in a shop environment with exposure to a variety of conditions You may be exposed to extreme temperatures, precipitation, dust, confined spaces, and noise You will also be exposed to chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and require protective equipment such as steel-toed boots, hard hats, gloves, and eye protection The role involves working alone and shift work The City of Edmonton values applicants with a diverse range of skills, experiences and competencies, and encourages you to apply.
