Human Resources Specialist
Position: Full-Time, Human Resources Specialist
Location:
Start Date: As soon as mutually agreed upon
Hours of Work: 1.0 FTE Monday-Friday
Work Schedule: 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

Reports to: The Human Resources Specialist will report directly to the Director of Human Resources
Summary: A Human Resources Specialist manages the administrative tasks of the HR department. They ensure compliance with policies and collective agreements while supporting the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment to benefits administration. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
Role and Responsibilities:

Adheres to human resources processes and practices by maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of legislation, collective agreements, and terms and conditions of employment.

Assists the Director of Human Resources with preparation for collective bargaining, addressing Union grievances, and liaise with the Union representatives.

Respects and adheres to the confidentiality of the role. Adheres to all FOIP regulations as laid out in the province of Alberta.

Attends labour management meetings as directed.

Responsible for full-cycle recruitment and onboarding process including developing job description, job posting, screening resumes, shortlisting suitable candidates, conducting phone-interviews, coordinating in-person interviews, conducting reference checks, providing job offers & employment contracts, etc.

Plans and conducts new employee orientation/onboarding.

Complies with all legal, Ministerial and Board mandates and timelines, and adherence to the Director of Human Resource directives.

Serves as a link between management and non-certificated employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering CUPE collective agreements and helping resolve work-related problems.

Administration of employee Benefits and Pension plans, including various employee insurance administration.

Assists the Director of Human Resources with the compilation of a Government of Alberta surveys including but not limited to; GOA wage survey, Statistics Canada survey and Alberta Education’s biannual TWINS report.

Exhibits a high level of personal, professional and organizational integrity.

Contributes to a Division culture which facilitates positive results, effectively handles emergencies, and supports crisis management efforts in a team-oriented, collaborative and cohesive fashion.

Administration and maintenance of the HR Service Desk including customer service care.

Ensures the application of Board Policies and Administrative Procedures as required in the performance of duties.

Establishes and maintains positive, professional working relations with the Director of Human Resources.

Models excellent time management skills and an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Performs other duties and obligations as assigned by the Director of Human Resources and Senior Team.
Requirements
- A minimum of a post-secondary certificate/diploma in human resources, or business administration is required.
- 1-5 years of experience in Human Resources Generalist or Recruitment role.
- CPHR and/or RPR designation will be considered an asset.
- Human Resource Information System (HRIS) &/or Atrieve experience an asset.
- Previous experience in an education setting is an asset.
- Equivalencies of education and experience will be taken into consideration.
- Experienced with Microsoft office and Google applications
- This position requires exceptional interpersonal communication skills as well as a strong data entry skill with high attention to detail. Incumbent will need to maintain a high level of trust and confidentiality.
Salary is based on relevant education and experience.

Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. The Division is governed by seven elected Trustees.
The Board’s three priorities are:
