Job#: 2076193 Job Description: Lead Developer - ADF Client: Big 5 Bank

Location: Downtown Toronto. Hybrid: Thursdays in office and every 4 th Friday

Duration of Contract/Perm: 6 months contract with multiple extensions available

Hours/week: 37.5 hrs/wk. 9-5 PM, M-F Start date: June 2025

Job Overview This role supports a strategic initiative to migrate the current data infrastructure from a tactical setup—relying on direct data pulls from virtual machines (VMs)—to a modern, scalable architecture using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and Databricks. The goal is to enhance data accessibility, governance, and analytics capabilities across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Migrate data pipelines from VM-based sources to ADF and Databricks.
  • Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using ADF and Azure Functions (C#).
  • Build and manage Databricks notebooks using Python, Spark, and Pandas.
  • Load datasets from various sources into Databricks using Medallion architecture.
  • Convert Databricks workspaces from Hive Metastore to Unity Catalog and configure associated permissions.
  • Design and implement Delta Lake schemas with appropriate security and performance configurations.
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Enterprise, with a focus on Databricks cluster and secret management.
  • Configure Azure Entra ID for SSO and RBAC.
  • Work with Azure PaaS resources including Azure SQL PaaS, ADF/SHIR, ADLS, Databricks, and Synapse Dedicated SQL Pools.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience with:
  • ADF, Databricks, and Azure Functions (C#).
  • Python/Notebook development on Databricks/Spark/Pandas.
  • Data ingestion using ADF into Databricks with Medallion architecture.
  • Migrating to Unity Catalog and managing permissions.
  • Designing and securing Delta Lake schemas.
  • DevOps pipelines for Databricks using Azure DevOps/GitHub Enterprise.
  • Azure Entra ID configuration for SSO/RBAC.
  • Deploying and managing Azure PaaS services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Delta Live Tables.
  • Familiarity with secure, locked-down Windows environments.
  • Background in the Financial Services industry.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead small teams and facilitate technical problem-solving sessions.
