Marketing and Communications Coordinator
About the role
Position Summary: The Marketing and Communications Coordinator (MCC) plays a key role in promoting the mission and impact of Student Nutrition Ontario (SNO) through effective and strategic communications. This position is responsible for developing and delivering high-quality content, managing digital and print campaigns, enhancing media relations and leading promotional events. The MCC ensures brand consistency across all platforms, increases program visibility and supports internal communications and event promotion initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Content Development and Digital Communications
Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that maintains consistency in brand messaging and visual identity across all communication channels. Develop engaging content for websites, blogs, newsletters, email campaigns, and social media. Coordinate the design and production of marketing materials such as newsletters, promotional items, annual reports and event collateral. Work with internal teams to gather stories, updates and data for content development.
Conference Planning and Special Events
Lead the planning and execution of the Student Nutrition Ontario Vision Conference including conference logistics such as venue coordination, registration, program development, speaker engagement, and on-site execution. Manage the conference budget, monitor expenses, and ensure cost-effective delivery. Lead the development and implementation of promotional strategies to maximize attendance and engagement. Promote additional organizational events, conferences, webinars, or community engagement initiatives. Collaborate with SNO Leads to ensure cohesive messaging before, during and after events. Media Relations and Public Outreach
Draft press releases, media advisories, and other public relations materials. Cultivate and maintain relationships with media contacts and respond to media inquiries. Monitor and summarize media coverage for internal reporting.
Internal and Partner Communications
Support internal communications strategies to keep staff, regional leads and partners informed and engaged. Assist with the creation of presentations, talking points, and stakeholder reports. Job Knowledge
Minimum 3 years of experience working in communications, marketing, or public relations within the non-profit sector, or equivalent. Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, Marketing, Public Relations) or a combination of education, lived experience, and demonstrated expertise in communications and marketing. Understanding of MCCSS Student Nutrition Guidelines and the Canada Food Guide is an asset. Demonstrated understanding of branding, digital marketing strategy, and public engagement. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to detail. Experience managing websites, e-newsletters, and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X). Proficiency in design and publishing software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite), email marketing tools, and Microsoft 365. Bilingual (French and English) communication skills are an asset. Experience working with culturally diverse communities and an understanding of equity-based communications. Core Competencies and Accountability Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and adherence to confidentiality protocols. Committed to meeting deadlines, managing multiple tasks, and working with minimal supervision. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills across diverse sectors. Collaborative, respectful, and solution-focused in professional interactions. Exercises sound judgment and escalate decisions outside scope to the appropriate authority. Adheres to SNO and Sudbury Better Beginnings Better Futures bi-laws, policies and operating procedures.
