About Us The Baycrest Adult Day Program (ADP) operates out of The Baycrest Day Care Centre. The ADP is comprised of two programs separated both by client demographics and also by physical location. The Samuel Lunenfeld Mountainview Club is located in the Kimel Family building and provides a secure environment for seniors with moderate to more advanced dementia. The Freeman Family Day Centre is located in the Terraces building and provides service to seniors with normal cognition to mild cognitive impairment, as well as seniors with physical frailty, and complex medical conditions. Both programs offer a full Kosher lunch and health services including personal and psychosocial support.
Job Summary The Creative Arts Worker position uses art as a medium to enhance quality of life and well-being of our clients. The Creative Arts Worker is responsible for coordinating, developing, implementing and evaluating the Creative Arts program. The Creative Arts Worker provides and facilitates programs based on the needs and wants of clients and the Program’s mandate, working as a member of the interprofessional team. This position is intended to support the Adult Day Program Outreach work at Toronto Senior Housing Corporation buildings in the Baycrest vicinity. The Creative Arts Worker will also provide creative arts-based programming to the Adult Day Programs at Baycrest as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads innovative varied creative arts programs that meet client needs. Assists departmental colleagues in planning for special events, i.e. central holiday events/programs including creating decor
- Works with Volunteer Services and staff to identify needs and to recruit volunteers for specific activities, supervises volunteers
- Functions as part of an interprofessional team, attends staff meetings and reports as needed on the Creative Arts program and on client concerns, minute taking
- Assists team in assessing new referrals and facilitates the integration of new clients into the program
- Provides creative arts-based programming for Adult Day Program outreach work at Toronto Senior Housing Corporation Buildings in the Baycrest area
- Provides creative arts-based programming for Adult Day Programs at Baycrest for in-person and virtual programing as needed
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures for a safe work environment, including operation of equipment, maintains organized/neat workspace
- Maintains creative arts supplies, inventory, and equipment in good working order, initiates purchase requisitions with supporting documentation for supplies, equipment etc. within program budget
- Documents program attendance, program goals and objectives, observations and evaluations of the programs on an ongoing basis, maintaining up to date program files
Key Qualifications:
- Minimum requirement two (2) year College diploma in a related field such as recreation, activation or gerontology, combined with knowledge, skill and ability in a variety of creative arts modalities: Art therapy, Creative Arts Programming
- Experience in the development and implementation of Creative Arts programs for seniors with frailties and mild to moderate cognitive impairment
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrated skills in the provision of creative arts programming
- Knowledge of dementia and Montessori Methods is preferred.
- Experience in supervision of volunteers/students
- Knowledge of Jewish culture, holidays and festivals an asset
- Ability to speak Russian is preferred
- Ability to speak/understand Yiddish, Hebrew, Hungarian, or Spanish is an asset
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel, PowerPoint required, and Meditech applications preferred
- Experience in delivering virtual programing is an asset
