Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Payroll and Benefits Assistant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for supporting the accurate and timely processing of multiple payrolls across various business units and locations—both unionized and non-unionized. You'll play a key part in ensuring payroll compliance, data integrity, and seamless employee support in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with end-to-end payroll processing for multiple payroll cycles (bi-weekly, weekly, semi-monthly) across various sites.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, and union dues.
  • Support the administration of unionized payrolls, including interpreting collective agreements related to compensation.
  • Assist in the preparation of Records of Employment (ROEs), T4s, and other statutory filings.
  • Verify and reconcile timesheets and hours worked using time and attendance systems.
  • Coordinate with HR and site managers to resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll and employee data.
  • Assist with benefit enrollments, deductions, and changes as needed.
  • Support audits and reporting requirements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of payroll processes and documentation.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma or certificate in Payroll Administration from a recognized institution is required for this role.
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification from the National Payroll Institute (formerly CPA), or currently enrolled, is an asset.
  • 1–2 years of payroll experience in a high-volume, multi-location environment.
  • Experience working with both union and non-union payrolls is an asset.
  • Familiarity with interpreting collective agreements is an advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience with payroll software such as Payworks, ADP, Ceridian, Dayforce, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with time and attendance systems.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
