We are currently seeking talented individuals to join our Airport Firefighter Team. This position is responsible for airport fire rescue operations, fire suppression, prevention, and supporting fire, health, safety, and security programs at Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport. Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Experience operating rescue firefighting vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience with personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
  • Experience with incident command and communication procedures.
  • Completion of Level 1 Structural Firefighter Certification (NFPA 1001 or equivalent).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR/AED certificate with Basic Life Support (BLS) and O2 Airway management.
  • Experience in structural firefighting.
  • Experience in aircraft firefighting would be considered an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

  • class 3 driver’s licence with air endorsement or equivalent
  • transportation security clearance (TSC) (to be met within 3 months of hire)
  • airport firefighter fitness appraisal
  • airside vehicle operator permit (AVOP) (to be met within 1 month of hire)
  • restricted radio operator certificate with aeronautical qualification ROC-A valid passport or equivalent

Job Requirements

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following job requirements:

  • Shift work including weekends and stat holidays

  • Wear a uniform provided by the department

  • Complete an Annual Fitness Appraisal

  • Travel may be required

Additional information

Candidates who are successful in the interview will be required to pass the Annual Fitness Appraisal prior to appointment.
