Context:
The ALTO project is a major infrastructure initiative in Canadian history, aimed at developing over 1,000 km of new passenger rail service between major urban centers, including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.
Missions/Main Duties:
Independently leads systems engineering tasks and contributes to multidisciplinary project delivery. The detailed responsibilities include :
- Identify, analyze, and document project stakeholder needs by engaging with clients, users, and internal teams to understand objectives and constraints.
- Translate stakeholder needs into clear, actionable design requirements, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure thorough alignment and traceability.
- Contribute to the formulation and implementation of systems engineering and safety assurance best practices, developing strategies that enhance project quality and reduce risk.
- Identify system interactions and maintain detailed documentation of interfaces, supporting effective integration across hardware, software, and operational domains.
- Support design teams in demonstrating compliance with requirements, assisting in the preparation and review of evidence, test plans, and design documentation.
- Manage and support requirement changes, ensuring all updates are accurately reflected in project documentation and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in verification, validation, and commissioning activities, helping to plan, execute, and document tests to confirm system performance and integrity.
- Provide field support under supervision, assisting with the installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of systems at project sites.
- Participate actively in team meetings and workshops, contributing technical insight, sharing progress, and supporting collaborative problem-solving.
Profile/Skills:
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent. Member in good standing of a provincial engineering regulatory body (e.g., OIQ, PEO, BCEG). ASEP, CSEP or PMP certification is an asset.
Years of experience : minimum 10-15 years of experience
Technical competencies :
Expert-level understanding of systems engineering lifecycle, including architecture, integration, verification & validation, and risk management
Deep familiarity with industry standards like ISO/IEC 15288, CENELEC EN 50126/50128/50129
Proficiency in Requirements Management, MBSE tools, System modeling, interface control, and traceability
Ability to define and implement system integration strategies and technical governance
Lead System architecture definition, Interface workshops and technical reviews and Commissioning and validation planning
Manage Technical risks and change control, Compliance with safety, security, and quality standards
Represent engineering in client meetings, project boards, and regulatory reviews
Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
