Power System Studies Engineer (up to Principal) - PJM (REMOTE US OR CANADA)
About the role
PJM's queue reform has triggered the largest wave of interconnection studies the market has seen in over a decade — and engineers who can actually do this work are in short supply. root/edge is retained by a growing energy technology firm that pairs power systems expertise with purpose-built software platforms to help utilities and developers run interconnection and grid studies faster and at scale. You'll join a small, focused team and report directly to the Director — no layers, no waiting your turn. Responsibility lands fast: you'll be building things that matter within months, not shadowing for years. It's hands-on from day one, and you're backed by real tooling and an established firm, not figuring it out alone.
What you'll own
:Hands-on PSS®E work across the full spectrum of PJM and MISO interconnection studies — stand-alone, clustered, as-built, surplus, expedited, and necessar yData review and validation for short circuit, load flow, and stability studies through PJM's Queue Point platfor mDynamic model development, including generic and user-defined models (UDMs )Troubleshooting, validation, and fine-tuning of load flow and dynamic models to PJM's Dynamic Modeling Design Guide (DMDG) requirement sMFO and reactive power capability assessments for PJM complianc eScope of Work (SOW) development, contingency definition, and dispatch list creation across PJM/MISO areas including AEP, ComEd, DVP, DPL, PECO, PEPCO, and PSE GBuilding study base cases and clustering queue projects across PJM study cycle sCoordinating directly with Transmission Owners to resolve comments and finalize deliverable sStability analysis under stressed system conditions and contingency scenario sAdvising developers on deficiencies, model tuning, and mitigation strategie
