Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Home Office – Toronto or Montreal, Canada
Type: Permanent Full-time
Primero America’s team is currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer**.**This is a unique opportunity to join our talented team and be part of Primero’s growth and success. We expanded into Houston in 2022 and Toronto in 2023, strengthening our North American presence. We specialize in the design, procurement, and construction management of mineral processing plants
As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will design electrical distribution and control systems under the supervision of the Lead E&IC Engineer and support the electrical, instrumentation and controls (E&IC) department through the various phases of each project: feasibility, design, construct and commission.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Develop single line, schematic and termination diagrams.
- Develop electrical load lists, equipment lists, cable schedules and material take-offs.
- Conduct studies: load flow, protection coordination, short circuit, motor starting, cable sizing, grounding.
- Develop specifications and datasheets for the procurement of electrical equipment.
- Research, design and evaluate electrical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements by applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Complete and works in a timely fashion with a diligent attitude, while focusing on safety during work and safety in designs.
- Liaise with vendors, clients, draftspersons, interdisciplinary engineers (process, structural, mechanical, etc.) and other key stakeholders for the duration of design activities.
- Provide site support during construction and commissioning project phases.
- Perform self-appraisals and appraisals of any subordinates.
- Provide direction to draftspersons during design activities to ensure drawing output meets engineering requirements.
- Manage vendors during supply phase of project
Qualifications, skills, abilities and experience we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Sciences - Electrical Engineering.
- 8 to 20 years relevant experience in electrical design.
- Registered (or candidate for) P. Eng license in Canada.
- Experience with both low and medium voltage systems is an asset; specifying transformers, switchgear/MCCs, VFDs and generators.
- Strong understanding of local codes and standards including CEC and IEEE.
- Experience in the mining or oil/gas industry with onsite works during construction and commissioning.
- Ability to develop electrical deliverables (SLD, load list, etc).
- Ability to develop and understand electrical engineering calculations.
- Experience with ETAP, familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Possess high level of analytical ability used to solve complex problems.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Conversant with the company’s Management philosophy and organizational structure.
- Provide assistance, as needed or directed, to deliver a quality product on schedule and budget.
- Ability to read and interpret design drawings, schematics and other engineering drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Experience designing with NEC and IEC codes/standards.
- Further training/seminars in electrical engineering design principals, such as arc-flash.
- Experience with instrumentation and PLC control systems is a benefit.
- Driven to learn, gain new experience and lead by example

Position details:
- 40 hours per week
