About the role

At Fulmer & Company, we believe that good business starts with good people. As an investment firm with a growing portfolio of businesses across quick-service restaurants, manufacturing, distribution, and retail, we thrive on identifying and scaling opportunities. Our team operates with an entrepreneurial mindset, navigating the complexities of multiple industries while driving sustainable growth.

We are looking for a Bookkeeper to join our fast-paced, dynamic environment, where initiative and strategic thinking are valued. This role is an opportunity for a driven finance professional to contribute to the financial operations of multiple businesses, optimize processes, and analyze key financial output. If you think that you will thrive in a private equity-style setting—where agility, problem-solving, and leadership are essential—this could be the right fit.

The Role

As Bookkeeper, you will be part of the shared finance team, ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and efficiency across our businesses. Beyond managing the numbers, we are looking for someone who is proactive, solution-oriented, and eager to build. You will work closely with the Director of Corporate Reporting, Payroll Manager, and the finance team, gaining exposure to regular financial reporting, strategic financial planning, and operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-cycle bookkeeping, maintaining detailed working papers, preparing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Process accounts payable/receivable, invoices, payments and monitor aging
  • Partner with operations team to improve workflows (approvals, vendor bills, PO 3-way match, and dashboards)
  • Assist with the annual audit and compliance of internal controls
  • Process payroll, benefits, and statutory filings
  • Serve as a primary payroll and benefits contact
  • Administrative duties including bank deposits, processing vouchers, organizing accounting correspondence, and taking incoming calls
  • Participate in system upgrades, testing, and implementation of payroll software and other software changes
  • Ad-hoc reporting, projects, and duties as required

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years of Canadian payroll processing and benefits administration experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Canadian Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset—you take ownership, solve problems, and drive results.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking—you go beyond reporting to provide insights that drive business decisions.
  • Advanced Excel skills, experience with Sage Accounting (or similar ERP), ADP or Payworks.

Why Join Us?

  • Work in a diverse, private equity-style working environment with exposure to multiple industries.
  • Be part of a small, high-impact team where your contributions shape the business.
  • Competitive compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 annual salary.

If you are a driven financial individual who thrives in an entrepreneurial setting, we’d love to hear from you.
