QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate required (training delivered by Health Centre upon hire)
  • Capillary Blood Glucose Certification required
  • Minimum 2 years medical clinical experience required
  • Experience in Dementia Care required
  • Certified in Medication Administration required with recent related experience (within the last two (2) years) required
  • Experience with catheterization
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate and PIECES certificate required
  • IV maintenance an asset
  • Wound management knowledge and experience an asset
  • Knowledge of Recovery Oriented Practice supporting patient choice is an asset\
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation (I.e. Mental Health Act, PHIPA, etc.) is required
  • Knowledge of RAI an asset

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent level of physical assessment skills required

  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate patients an asset

  • Demonstrated ability in therapeutic and interpersonal communication skills is required

  • Excellent level of interpersonal skills required

  • Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills required

  • Ability to effectively provide health teaching to individuals and groups required

  • Ability to work as a collaborative member of the health team required

  • Ability to assume responsibility for patient care in a total patient care climate required

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision required

  • Ability to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care to medical patients required

  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors

  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization

  • Basic computer skills required

  • Good attendance and work record required

  • Must be available for scheduled shifts and call-ins

  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario

NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.

NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.

NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.

A major teaching centre for students in medicine, psychiatry, nursing and allied health professions, NBRHC is proud to be affiliated with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Nipissing University, Canadore College and several other Ontario colleges and universities.
