About The Position The Director of Finance supports the VP of Finance and will primarily be responsible for project accounting, preparations of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, inter-company balances, cash management, tax, compliance/ reporting, insurance and banking administration. The Director of Finance also provides financial guidance to the Leadership Group.
Primary Activities Include
- Provide financial and accounting oversight for Walter’s Group’s lines of business including corporate investments – Metropolitan-Walters LLC, DSCO, Thai Walters Engineering, Walter’s Field Services USA LLC, etc.
- Cash Management .
- Work with Departmental Leaders to develop and oversee Walter’s Group of companies’ annual budgets including variance analysis.
- Exemplify a culture of continuous improvement to automate processes, save time and provide management with improved analytics for decision making.
- Project Accounting, oversee the preparation of work in progress adjustments.
- Oversee and prepares financial statements for holding companies and joint ventures.
- Ensure financial processes are compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the month-end accounting cycle for the Walters operating group of companies – Walters Inc, Walters Field Services Inc, Feature Walters Inc, Walters Group International LLC and Walter’ Field Services USA LLC
- Prepare and review the monthly Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Analysis. Prepare Board reporting packages.
- Conduct monthly analysis of project performance to budget. Work with the Project Management and Sales Teams.
- Respond to insurance enquiries and certificate requests
- On an annual basis with the VP of Finance, review and renew liability insurance requirements
- Work with surety companies to ensure appropriate insurance coverage
- Manage external auditors, SRED Consultants or other financial advisors as required
- Along with VP Finance, determine tax policy for the Walters Group of Companies and its affiliates
- Respond to the CRA/ WSIB audit queries and audits.
- As a Senior member of the Finance team, provide guidance and exemplify Walters’ Core Values.
- With VP Finance, draft and implement standard operating procedures for the Finance team.

Position Requirements
- A university degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
- CPA, CA (or equivalent) designation.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience with full accounting cycle responsibility.
- Consolidation of financial reporting.
- Project Accounting experience in the Construction Industry.
- Budget development and maintenance.
- Corporate tax knowledge and compliance.
- Strong Computer Skills (Great Plains, Microsoft Office suite of products).
- Experience with commercial and bonding insurance .
- Experience with year-end audit (prep, reporting, fielding questions, etc.)
Desired Experience
- Project Accounting experience in the structural steel construction industry.
- Accounting System / ERP implementation experience.
- Payroll experience.
- Experience dealing with financial lenders.
- Transfer Pricing (cross border).
- Knowledge and ability to operate and manage computerized financial and payroll information systems.
