An exciting opportunity to join CAMH’s dynamic Access CAMH team! Access CAMH’s aim is to improve access to services at CAMH for clients, families and professionals in the community.
Access CAMH is seeking a full-time temporary (7 months) RN to support triage, screening and disposition planning for clients with mental health and substance use disorders seeking assessment and/or treatment services with an inter-professional team. This role has a practice focus in addictions and concurrent disorders. You will liaise with other services throughout CAMH and in the community, to coordinate care for clients. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students; and participate in Access CAMH’s evaluation activities. You will be a subject matter expert in navigating families through the mental health and addictions system. You will have strong knowledge of substance use disorders, treatment options and services. You will have strong crisis intervention skills and knowledge of mental health disorders, the recovery model, and motivational interviewing. Your skills will also include the ability to make behavioural observations, perform mental and physical status assessments. You will have sound skills of documentation principles, and evaluation of interventions. You will have effective communication skills and the ability to communicate with other team members and clinicians throughout CAMH. As well, you will be expected to ensure safety and security of the client care environment, and to practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards, the Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, CAMH policies and procedures, and with the CAMH Practice Model of Care. Access CAMH works in collaboration with primary health care providers, schedule 1 hospitals and the mental health and addiction treatment system in Toronto. This role requires participation in initiatives for Access CAMH, assistance in developing and maintaining networks with community agencies, groups, and resources. A commitment to high quality customer service and respectful and compassionate communication with clients is required. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 1051 Queen St. West. The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday-Friday, day time hours.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate must be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR). You will have two years experience in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or have or are pursuing CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the prevention and management of disturbed behaviour. Experience in working with individuals with mental health, substance abuse problems and/or concurrent disorders is required. Previous experience in clinical assessment is required. Experience in screening and assessment for substance use disorders is required. Excellent telephone communication skills are required. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset. Please note there will be an educational and orientation period in this position catered to the successful candidate’s learning needs.
