THE OPPORTUNITY
The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Maintenance team in the capacity of Maintenance Supervisor – Mechanical**/**Electrical.
Location: Guelph Board Office (500 Victoria Rd. N, Guelph, ON, N1E 6K2)
Hours of work/FTE**:** 1.0 FTE; 40 hours per week
Salary Range: $112,754 to $135,228 per year (wage rate effective September 1, 2025)
Board Information: 12 months; permanent, full-time; Administrative Employees
Reporting to the Senior Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor – Mechanical/Electrical supervises and manages the maintenance and repair of all electrical and mechanical systems for all schools and administration sites. This successful incumbent will manage the allocation of work for skilled trade employees and contractors.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all Electrical and Mechanical building systems, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory and code regulations
- Management of direct reports (Electricians and Plumbers) by assigning work, setting schedules, resolving problems, and identifying appropriate individual goals aligned with individual capabilities, and work requirements
- Monitor budgets, managing variances and recommend allocations
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hours calls for fire alarms, security, and other emergencies
- Manage and supervise projects with employees and contractors including determining project scope, preparing documents for quotation, and maintaining budget requirements
- Collaborate with Facilities team and Capital/Renewal team to manage assets while cost effectively maximizing life cycle and make recommendations for renewal or capital projects
- Support the Capital/Renewal team by supporting project implementation and assisting with identification and resolution of deficiencies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
- Valid Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A) or Certificate of Qualification as a Construction Maintenance Electrician (309A) as a Journeyman from the Province of Ontario
- Sound understanding of the principles of mechanical and electrical systems
- Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of supervisory experience of electrical and mechanical skill trades employees within a unionized workplace
- Strong analytical abilities and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical building systems
- Knowledge of regulatory agencies requirements including Technical Standards and Safety Authority, the Electrical Safety Authority, and local Building and Fire Safety regulations
- Valid Ontario driver's license
