About the role

Company Description

FLINT is a leading service provider in Canada’s energy and industrial markets offering full asset life cycle support, including construction, maintenance, fabrication, and environmental services. Committed to safety and quality, we foster a workplace culture that values innovation and sustainability. With a strong local presence and top-tier talent, we deliver high-quality services as we help our customers bring their resources to our world.

Job Description

We are seeking a high performing Project Controls Specialist to take ownership of cost control, scheduling, and performance reporting on large scale industrial projects. This is a leadership role within the project team, requiring technical proficiency, initiative, and a high level of accountability. The successful candidate will lead the planning and execution of project controls deliverables, coach team members on expectations, and ensure the quality and consistency of inputs across all project phases.

This role bridges field operations and project reporting, requiring both practical experience and the discipline to manage controls with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.

What would you be doing?

  • Project Controls Leadership: Develop and manage the integrated Project Controls Plan, covering cost, schedule, progress measurement, and forecasting.
  • Scheduling & Execution Alignment: Build and maintain detailed schedules in Primavera P6 or MS Project, aligned with construction and procurement plans.
  • Cost Tracking & Reporting: Monitor actuals vs. budget, analyze variances, and deliver clear, data-driven reports to support decision-making.
  • Field Data Management: Collect and verify daily/weekly field data (progress, hours, materials, subcontractor costs) to ensure accurate and consistent reporting.
  • Team & Stakeholder Collaboration: Lead forecasting cycles, support change management, integrate subcontractor schedules, and coach teams on controls standards and reporting quality.

Perks of the job

  • Comprehensive insurance and benefits package
  • Health Care Spending Account
  • Paid vacation
  • Competitive compensation

Qualifications

  • Over 10 years in field-based industrial projects (construction, maintenance, oil & gas), with deep expertise in cost control, scheduling, earned value, forecasting, and progress measurement.
  • Skilled in Primavera P6, MS Project, and Excel; capable of independently managing controls deliverables across the full project lifecycle.
  • Effective cross-functional communicator who supports decision-making through accurate, fact-based reporting and leads with initiative.
  • Preferred qualifications include post-secondary education in technical fields, field execution experience, trade certification (Red Seal), and safety credentials (CSTS, H2S Alive, WHMIS).
  • Detail-oriented and accountable, with a strong focus on data integrity and reporting quality; thrives in fast-paced, high-accountability environments requiring field presence.

Additional Information

As a condition of employment, qualified applicants who accept the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of a combination of a Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification, and an Education and Accreditation Verification.
