About the Job
The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse:
-
Actively engages high risk and vulnerable populations through clinical and community/outreach settings to increase knowledge and encourage behavior change that promotes reproductive/sexual health, communicable disease prevention and harm reduction.

Collaboratively develops, implements and evaluates comprehensive care plans using systematic health assessment and best practices involving the individual, family, physicians and other members of the health care team, Establishes effective working relationships and partnerships with other professionals, community members, and agencies.

Provides decision support, urgent care support, symptom management, basic health and wellness, psychosocial/emotional support, and education resources

Provides screening, education, support, counseling, referrals and therapeutic follow up to clients in areas such as acute, chronic disease, harm reduction, lifestyle issues, reproductive health, mental health and substance use, basic wound care and safety/ injury prevention in on-traditional settings.
The Outreach Nurse is responsible for providing nursing services related to communicable disease prevention and control (including HIV and blood borne pathogens), reproductive/sexual health, immunization, harm reduction, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, wound care and mental health/substance use support for high risk and vulnerable populations. The role includes a strong focus on prevention, education and health promotion as well as assessment, chronic disease management, coordination, support, liaison and referral of health services.
This is a Casual opportunity. Casual Employees are not guaranteed hours of work and can range from 0-37.5 hours per week on an as-needed basis.
Shifts of work will be scheduled days rotating from 08:30 to 16:30 hours.

- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Successful completion of a recognized Basic Cardiac Course (which includes telemetry)
- Two years recent clinical experience in acute or chronic coronary/cardiovascular nursing including formal experience in behavioral/lifestyle counseling and identification and management of cardiovascular/chronic disease risk factors and conditions, and one year recent adult learner teaching experience in a formal setting; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience
- Current valid BC Driver’s License
