Position Overview:
The Territory Sales Representative at Stella Jones is responsible for managing a combined territory for national retail stores and independent lumber dealers. This unique role blends the structured relationship management and merchandising needs of a national retail account with the sales and service approach required for independent dealers. The successful candidate will build and maintain strong relationships with store managers, department associates, and contractor customers, while promoting our full range of products through in-person visits, training, and ongoing account support.

This is a remote, home-based position, ideally based in the Winnipeg area. The majority of the travel in this role is within Winnipeg and the surrounding communities, with additional trips to visit current and prospective customers in other parts of Manitoba. Key Responsibilities:

For Both National Retail Store & Independent Dealers:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with store management, department staff, service desk personnel, and contractor customers

  • Provide product knowledge training sessions for store staff and contractors, both in-person and virtually

  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels, providing suggested orders when stock replenishment is needed

  • Promote and educate on all products and programs available

  • Ensure displays, literature, signage, and samples are well-maintained and meet company and customer standards

  • Support warranty claims, returns, and site inspections as needed

  • Actively seek opportunities to grow sales and expand product presence in the territory

National Retail Store Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage weekly visits to assigned stores (6 stores in Manitoba; increased frequency in season)

  • Work closely with Pro Desk and Lumber Department teams to identify and pursue contractor sales opportunities

  • Communicate shipment updates directly with Pro teams and contractors

  • Facilitate return-to-vendor (RTV) processes for defective or incorrectly shipped products

  • Verify shipping and receiving discrepancies to ensure accurate invoicing and payment

  • Participate in events, product knowledge sessions, and customer demos (virtual or in person)

Independent Lumber Dealer Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular visits to each independent dealer location in the territory

  • Learn the full product line thoroughly to answer technical questions confidently

  • Keep staff informed about new products and updates

  • Install and maintain in-store displays, samples, and brochures

  • Visit job sites to assess product issues or provide technical support

Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of experience in territory sales, account management, and/or retail merchandising required; Five or more years preferred
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with both customers and internal teams
  • Ability to work independently from a home office and manage a diverse territory
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout Manitoba (including occasional overnight trips)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual meeting tools
  • Comfortable with physical aspects of the role, including setting up displays (up to 50 lbs) and conducting site visits
  • Must have a valid driver's license
