THERAPIST – COUNSELLING AND TREATMENT (69-25)

Job Status: Permanent

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Base office: Parry Sound

Competition: 69-25

Purpose of the Position: The Therapist will provide direct clinical services to individuals and their families in need of counselling/psychotherapy. The incumbent is responsible for delivering high quality assessment and individual/group treatment/counselling intervention(s) following best practice recommendations. The priority for service provision will be individuals experiencing serious mental illness and residing in Parry Sound. The Therapist works in partnership with other internal and external service providers to meet the needs of the client, including the provision of consultation and education internally and externally. Candidate is able to demonstrate experience in group facilitation both in person and virtually.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Preferred qualifications include a master’s level post-secondary degree in Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Social Work, or equivalent degree, along with current registration in good standing within their respective professional regulatory body/college, including College of Nurses of Ontario, Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario

  • Minimum one year of experience preferred in providing psychotherapy with individuals with mental illness, substance use, and complex clinical presentations

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge and ability to practice the act of psychotherapy.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing group, individual and walk-in therapy

  • Practical experience and knowledge working with people with serious mental illnesses and addictions and a commitment to their rights

  • Demonstrated competency with principles and practices of individual, group and crisis interventions

  • Indigenous cultural awareness and education is an asset

  • Clear Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a multidisciplinary team in a rural setting

  • A willingness to serve clients within the communities of the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook Calendar, and Client information systems

  • Participate in the CMHAMPS 24/7/365 telephone-based service and respond to clients with self- identified crisis situations, as defined by the scope of practice of the program and/or service delivery model

  • A willingness to work shifts (including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays)

  • Bilingual in French is an asset

  • A valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s license and a safe reliable means of transportation

Salary scale: $35.90 - $44.26 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience.
