About the role

SOME PEOPLE CALL YOU A human CALCULATOR.

This is a fixed term position, with a tentative end date of May 31, 2026.

The Opportunity

Some people dread the thought of paying bills or balancing their chequebook. Not you. In fact, you’re not even afraid to admit you get a bit of a thrill from balancing the books. You’re in your element when solving problems and thinking about the big picture, but you also have an uncanny ability to zero in on the smallest details. And we love that about you.

If you’re the type of person who can effortlessly shift between strategic thinking and accuracy-driven tasks—and maybe even enjoy it—then you might be exactly who we’re looking for to join our Finance team.

A Place to Belong

AMA is more than a workplace; it’s a family. Together, we help protect the things that matter most to our more than one-million members—everything from roadside safety to retail savings, food security to childhood well-being. With operations spanning automotive, registries, travel, insurance and more, your opportunities to grow with us are nearly endless.

As part of the AMA team, you’ll enjoy:

  • Competitive salary.
  • Flexible benefits for purchase with multiple packages to choose from.
  • Great AMA discounts on memberships, programs, and services.
  • Access to unlimited learning opportunities—including dedicated learning time for your own development.
  • Vacation time paid out to you with each pay period.

What Moves You

  • You’re a self-starter who thrives when working independently, but you also love being part of a fast-paced, dynamic team.
  • You’re all about customer service—whether you’re supporting internal or external clients.
  • Integrity, accountability, and a strong work ethic are part of your DNA.
  • You’re basically an accounting action hero—saving the day with your extreme accounting skills.
  • You’ve been nicknamed “eagle eyes” thanks to your impressive attention to detail.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Join a team of skilled Technicians, reporting to the Finance Supervisor.
  • Record and process accurate and complete financial and operational data and reports within established timelines.
  • Code, total, batch, enter, verify and reconcile transactions such as accounts payable and receivable, cheques, invoices and cheque requisitions.
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger and sub-ledger accounts.
  • Provide exceptional service to members, internal staff, vendors and management.
  • Develop, produce and maintain ad hoc and custom reports, as required.
  • Keep financial records organized, accurate and up-to-date.

What You Bring to the Table

  • You have, or are close to completing, a post-secondary degree in accounting or business.
  • You bring a minimum of two years of accounting experience.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to adapt to new systems, strong working knowledge of computerized accounting systems, and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (your Excel skills deserve a medal).
  • Keen attention to detail is one of your superpowers.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • You’re a quick learner with a strong work ethic and the ability to meet deadlines while producing accurate results.

About AMA - Alberta Motor Association

Consumer Services

AMA is a multi-service organization representing 1 million Albertans. While most often known for our roadside assistance program, we also offer travel, registries and insurance services, Alberta’s largest driver education school, a member rewards program and member events in our communities. Part of the CAA and AAA family, we’re focused on our member’s needs and guided by their values to provide products, services and advocacy to help them live confidently.

Anyone here will tell you that we’re a different kind of employer, and it all comes down to how we treat our members - and each other. We've boiled it down to just two words: Practically Family. That’s not just a catchy phrase, we live it every day through simple gestures.

Practically Family is the web developer heading off shift who stops to help a team member carry items in the door, the insurance advisor who uses their break to pick up an extra coffee for a co-worker who’s having a bad day, or the registries agent who takes the time to help a member put their new licence plate on their vehicle. Not to mention all the birthday parties, free food days and wedding showers we throw for each other!

Taking care of one another, encouraging one another. It’s what family does, and what being Practically Family is all about. If you can picture yourself answering yes to the question, “Am I treating this member or colleague like a close family member or friend?” with every interaction, you’re our kind of people!
