The MAAC lab is one of the leading substance use and mental health research labs in Canada. The Director, Dr. Sherry Stewart is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Addictions and Mental Health and Professor in both the Faculty of Medicine and Science. Lab members and staff are comprised of Research Assistants, undergraduate, master’s and PhD students as well as Postdoctoral fellows

Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (PI), the successful candidate will be responsible for administrative oversight of the MAAC lab. This will include but not be exclusive to managing lab related finances and expenses; coordinating lab research projects, managing ethics submissions; supporting grant applications and working with the PI to support administrative teaching related activities.
Key Responsibilities

Manage finances and related reports for multiple research grants including a research collaboration between the MAAC Lab and Mitacs funding.

Prepare and coordinate primary ethics applications and supporting individual student applications to Research Ethics Boards (REBs).
-
Support data collection protocols and tools; supporting standardized data collection, and data cleaning.

Support grant submissions (i.e., drafting application sections, developing budget; literature searches; administering submission process).

Process and submit travel claims; payroll forms; and lab related expenses.

Daily management of the PI’s schedule and updating CV’s; Managing PI’s teaching materials on Brightspace; Organizing and attending weekly MAAC Lab meetings.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
-
BSc in Health or Social Sciences with a minimum of two years’ experience in research environments, overseeing day-to-day administration and coordination.

Proficiency in SPSS; MS Office Suite, and WordPress.

Understanding of the research pipeline.

Ability to work as part of a dynamic team and possess good organizational and communication (written and oral) skills.

Ability to meet tight deadlines and work efficiently with a minimum of supervision, at times.
