City of West KelownaParks Operator I - (Mowing) SeasonalAnnual SeasonalThe City of West Kelowna's Parks Department is looking to fill vacancies on its turf mowing team. The mowing team plays a vital role in providing high-quality turf mowing for sports fields, parks, and boulevards across the City. This team consists of six personnel, including Operator I's and II's.Summarized Responsibilities:The Parks Operator I - Mowing role involves maintaining parks, sports fields, and City properties through mowing, trimming, and general turf and vegetation care. The position includes collecting litter and recycling, cleaning park infrastructure, and supportingirrigation and maintenance tasks. It requires physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions, along with conducting equipment inspections and minor maintenance. The role also involves documenting daily activities, reporting park conditions, assisting with maintenance planning, and providing courteous service to the public. Additionally, the operator follows all safety procedures, supports onboarding of new staff, and performs other related duties as needed.This is a permanent, seasonal position returning annually. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.Our Ideal Candidate: Minimum of 1 year of related experience Basic First Aid WHMIS 2015 Valid Class 5 BC Driver?s License Certified Irrigation Technician - Level 1 (asset) BC Pesticide Applicator?s Certificate (asset) Traffic Control Certification (asset) Class 5 BC Driver?s License with Heavy Trailer Endorsement (asset) Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside in the presence of all types of weather conditions Necessary knowledge of safe working and operating procedures related to equipment and tools and work procedures required to assure public safety Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Able to courteously deal with the public, contractors, and coworkers under stressful conditions and/or tight timelines Knowledge and previous experience operating various pieces of equipment such as small tractors/mowers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, lawnmowers, saws, blowers and a variety of hand tools, etc. Basic knowledge of operation, maintenance and safe use of landscape maintenance equipment Maintaining tree wells, tree grates, and tree guards Basic knowledge of turf maintenance including mowing, aerating, seeding, and sod laying Basic knowledge of vegetation maintenance including planting, pruning, and weeding Basic knowledge of native and invasive plant species Good general working knowledge of Microsoft OfficeApplications are accepted online at westkelownacity.ca/jobs.
