Description The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital are seeking applications for the Bellamy Manucha Professorship in Healthy Aging at St. Michael’s Hospital-Unity Health Toronto. The successful candidate must currently hold a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and an active Scientist appointment at Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital. Status-only scientists are not eligible to apply. This is a five-year, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital term professorship. The tentative start date of this appointment is May 1, 2026, or shortly thereafter.
The successful candidate will be recognized as a high-potential, early or mid-career scientist with the ability to lead a world-class research program related to healthy aging. This may include research that advances our understanding of access to care during aging, ability to age well and maintain independence, health services for older adults, health care for chronic disease or complex health in aging adults, and/or enhancing patient and community outcomes. The candidate must not concurrently hold a comparable award.
Applicants will be evaluated by an Appointments Committee according to University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital policies. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including but not limited to grants, peer-reviewed publications, program development, collaborations with organizations nationally and internationally, supervision of graduate students and fellows, teaching) and contributions to the field. Professionalism and contributions to St. Michael’s Hospital and the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and incorporation of Equity Diversity and Inclusion principles into their research program will also be considered.
The professorship will provide approximately $100,000 year for 5 years, which will be used to offset salary support of the incumbent (if applicable), as well as support the academic activities and/or interests of the incumbent, which may include research operations and education events.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a 2-page outline of their proposed academic program during the next 5 years, details outlining research productivity, training activities and academic prominence, and contact information for 3 referees.
