About the role
About Xanadu:
Xanadu’s mission is to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere.
At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. What we are doing is extremely hard, the classic moon shot. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems and literally change the world. And that is something to be excited about!
Your role and responsibilities:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to our Finance Manager, this role is specifically focused on the lifecycle management of our long-term assets and operational expenses, which are critical to our research and development operations. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between technical accounting and operational efficiency, ensuring that our capital investments are recorded, tracked, and depreciated with precision while also being able to identify trends and assist with forecasting for our capital investments.
Applicants for this opportunity must possess strong interpersonal skills coupled with attention to detail and the initiative to work independently. We are looking for a talented and outgoing individual to join our team where you will have a chance to innovate, grow, build and maintain relationships at varying levels.
What You'll Do
- Fixed Asset Management: Lead the end-to-end accounting for fixed assets, including capitalization of Project-in-Progress (CIP), depreciation, disposals, and impairment testing.
- Asset Integration: Partner research and development/purchasing/facilities teams to track new equipment installations and ensure proper classification of equipment and other assets.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual roll-forward schedules and reconciliations for the general ledger.
- Audit & Compliance: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors regarding fixed assets; ensure all processes align with US GAAP and internal SOX controls.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement automation or improvements in the asset tracking system to reduce manual errors and increase visibility into CAPEX spending.
- Tax Coordination: Provide necessary data for property tax filings and tax depreciation schedules.
- CAPEX Forecasting: Partner with department heads to develop and maintain the annual CAPEX budget including providing monthly "actual vs. budget" variance analysis to help leadership manage cash flow and investment timing and assessing the financial feasibility of new investment.
- Expense and Invoice Processing: Oversee the processing and coding of invoices related to capital projects to ensure accurate classification between OPEX (Operating Expense) and CAPEX. Maintain the accounts payable workflow for major vendors and contractors to ensure timely payments and accurate accruals.
- Tax Coordination: Provide necessary data for property tax filings and tax depreciation schedules.
Basic qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of work experience with a background in public accounting or internal accounting department, with increasingly expanded and more technical responsibilities.
- Versatile and able to jump into whatever needs to be done.
- Demonstrated track record of executing consistently.
- Continuously looking at improving systems, processes and policies to automate and streamline tasks.
- Detail-oriented and able to perform in a high-pressure and fast-moving environment.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- Hands-on experience in a flexible, agile (i.e., start-up) environment.
