Job Summary
Mandate The Student Care Coordinator plays a central role in ensuring students have timely, coordinated access to mental health and wellness services through effective scheduling and care navigation. This role is essential to supporting the delivery of integrated, student-centered care that aligns with the Wellness, Recreation and Athletics department's mission to foster wellbeing, empathy, equity, and social justice on campus.
The Coordinator acts as a key liaison between Student Wellness, campus partners, and community healthcare providers, coordinating referrals and supporting the triaging process for high-risk and complex student needs. The position is also central to scheduling operations, maintains accurate documentation in electronic systems, and supports the smooth operation of care pathways. Through workflow improvements, systems expertise, and relationship building, this role enhances the overall student experience and supports student wellness and success.
Objectives
- Coordinate student care pathways and appointment scheduling to ensure timely and integrated access to services.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external referrals, supporting triage and care coordination for students with complex needs.
- Optimize scheduling systems and workflows to support operational efficiency, service delivery, and student engagement.
- Support and train staff in electronic records systems and scheduling tools to ensure consistent, high-quality care coordination.
Job Requirements
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as social work, psychology, nursing, health administration, or a related discipline), plus a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in case management, student services, or clinical care coordination. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating care or referrals in a healthcare, post-secondary, or community setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners
- Experience in supporting the triage of casefiles and managing sensitive or complex patient support situations
- Strong knowledge of electronic records and scheduling systems (e.g., Accuro, Titanium), including configuration and training
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, with a high level of attention to detail and confidentiality
- Experience in training, mentoring, or supporting staff in systems or service processes
- Knowledge of privacy legislation and healthcare confidentiality protocols (e.g., FIPPA, HIPAA)
- Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Understanding of health and wellness factors that impact student success and access to care
- Ability to take initiative, solve problems, and adapt to changing service needs and priorities
- Cultural awareness of Indigenous peoples in British Columbia, including knowledge of barriers Indigenous students may face in post-secondary settings.
- Understanding of how Indigenous wellness practices and experiences with western healthcare systems impact access to care and support.
- Familiarity with student support services and systems in a post-secondary context, is an asset.
