Type of Vacancy Existing Vacancy Hours of Work 40 hours per week Contract Length Up to 8 months Department Roads, Parks & Forestry Location This position is required to work in person at 3330 Harvester Road, Burlington, Ontario along with various sites across the city. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Position Overview This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment used in road maintenance activities. Responsibilities The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible to: Operate a variety of heavy equipment and specialized machinery, specifically equipment utilized in roads/drainage activities including backhoe, front end loader, asphalt roller, skid steer and crane truck. Install, adjust, and remove various attachments to vehicles, machinery and equipment. Manually perform maintenance and repairs as required. Transport heavy equipment, materials and personnel to various job sites and work locations. Operate winter control equipment to apply sand, salt, anti-icing liquids, and to remove snow from streets, sidewalks, and facilities. Operate equipment and vehicles of all sizes to carry out duties (i.e. Front-end loaders, skid steer and/or dump trucks). Maintain accurate and detailed records including but not limited to accomplishments, deficiencies, and actions taken. Requirements You have a high school diploma and demonstrated experience in operating various pieces of road construction-related equipment and vehicles. Previous asphalt/drainage experience is preferred. You have a valid DZ license, with the ability to obtain AR or AZ, with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire), and/or no administrative driver license (ADLS) suspensions. There is a possibility of 24/7 shifts for winter control.
