At this pivotal moment in the company, we are launching new product into the mining industry that leverages our years of delivering Simulation as a Service to multiple global customers. Our product launch and continuing development will allow for this role to support the successful integration of product with customers and assist with product improvement.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Application Manager, we are looking for a current Mining Engineering Student to serve as Application Coop Student. This position will leverage the candidate’s emerging mining knowledge to support the development, testing and deployment of our simulation software as well as leveraging mining knowledge to deliver custom services to our customers. This position plays an important role within the Application Solutions group both in delivering customized simulation services to customers, supporting product deployment to customers and performing testing of ongoing product development.
As an intern in our organization, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals and gain hands-on experience in simulation modeling and analysis. This role will provide you with valuable insights into the practical application of simulation and machine learning techniques in a real-world mining application.
What you’ll be doing
The role will require focus on the following core areas.
Customer Deployment and Support:
- Collect requirements and analyze data to identify key variables and input parameters required for accurate simulation modeling.
- Configure models to represent the haul network, equipment fleet and expected machine performance
- Collaborate with team members to develop design of experiment for a defined business problem to achieve intended measurable insights.
- Conduct sensitivity analysis to assess the impact of changing variables on simulation outcomes.
- Validate and verify simulation models by comparing the results with real-world data and established benchmarks.
- Help generate reports and presentations summarizing the findings and recommendations from simulation and data science studies.
- Assist in documenting project business requirements, data inputs and outputs, modeling assumptions, and limitations.
- Working with Business Intelligence applications such as Power BI, Tableau, Excel.
- Interacting with customers to help present results and facilitate user training.
Product testing:
- Execute manual test cases and document results.
- Assist with running simulation test cases.
- Support the creation and updating of QA documentation (test plans, test cases, defect logs).
- Identify, record, and document defects clearly and accurately.
- Collaborate with developers and QA analysts to reproduce and troubleshoot issues.
- Assist with the initial stages of test automation.
Qualification & Experience
- Currently enrolled in Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and solve problems analytically through common platforms such as MS Excel.
- While prior experience with simulation modeling and tools are not required, familiarity with simulation software such as AnyLogic, MATLAB, or similar tools would be an advantage.
- Experience with Python, T-SQL and SQL Database queries would also be an asset.
- Understanding of mine production equipment, including typical operating performance.
- Solid understanding of statistical concepts, and how simulation can be used to deliver outcomes for experimental concepts.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Ability to present complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
Work environment/Hours/Location
This is a full-time position based on a 40-hour work week. We are driven by objectives and results. Stream’s head office is location in Calgary, Alberta with remote workers located across the country in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. We are happy to provide a hybrid work environment, enabling you to work remotely as needed. We encourage a strong collaborative culture and provide workspaces in the office for teamwork, design, planning sessions and social activities.
The candidate must have strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Opportunity will be provided to work remotely from a home location, with occasional travel to the head office and possibly customer sites.
