Career Opportunity

Looking for a new and exciting opportunity? The Streetcar Department is currently seeking a Yard Control Despatcher.

This position is required to work night shifts with Friday and Saturday as off days.

What You Will Do?

  • You will be responsible for performing routine vehicle dispatching and yard control operation work at a Carhouse location.
  • You will complete all related vehicle allocation forms and dispatch lists, arranging vehicles in the Carhouse or yard according to service requirements.
  • You will assign vehicles to Carhouse Operators for the build-up of service, movement to storage, cleaning, inspection and repair areas.
  • You will also report on the availability of vehicles for service and/or change-offs.
  • You will operate the yard control board to set track switches and signals thereby ensuring the safe movement of vehicles in the yard area and to and from the service line.
  • In addition, you will utilize the Maximo System in order to maintain and extract records concerning vehicles, units, defects, labour hours and records concerning trouble calls, power failures and other recording functions, as required.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your education will consist of completion of high-school, or its equivalent through practical experience demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • You must have a valid, non-probationary Province of Ontario driver’s license, class “G” or better.
  • You must have practical experience in a vehicle dispatching environment, which prepares vehicles for service including the build-up/break-down of service related activities.
  • In this role, you must successfully complete TTC in-house training programs for Surface Rule Book certification, Carhouse Operator certification and yard control board certification (pertinent to the assigned location).
