The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Kinesiology, and a Professional Development and Training department. The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.

Duties:

The equipment and supply clerk is responsible for maintaining equipment, supplies, and labs for the health and dental programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services.

  • Distribution of equipment and consumables in health labs and dental clinic according to learning activities for multiple programs;
  • Source and order consumables and equipment as necessary within program operating budgets;
  • Inventory and budget monitoring;
  • Create, implement, and monitor inventory control system;
  • Monitor multiple budgets, working with program chairs, the associate dean, and the dean, to ensure that budgets are not over-expended;
  • Assist the dean or associate dean with capital equipment purchases;
  • Prepare, sterilize, install, and clean laboratory or healthcare equipment;
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks and operate or inspect equipment;
  • Create and distribute student lab and practice kits for skills practice and testing in multiple health and dental programs;
  • Act as a resource for program chairs and faculty researching new supplies and/or equipment;
  • Participate in various Health Sciences and Human Services committees (lab, infrastructure, capital);
  • First point of contact for external repair technicians and sales representatives;
  • Process invoices and purchasing card statements;
  • Program student access cards for multiple programs;
  • Photocopier readings within Health and Human Services.

Work requires travel to all three campuses (Nanaimo, tiwšɛmawtxʷ (Powell River), and Cowichan (Duncan)).

Required Qualifications:

One-year technician training (i.e. Medical Equipment Preparation, Certified Dental Assistant Certificate, or Office Administration Certificate (OACP) plus medical terminology and records clerk training) or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited post-secondary institution. 3 to 5 years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Sound working knowledge of various medical supplies and equipment, purchasing and inventory control, computer proficiency, MS Office, entry-level accounting processes.

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous post-secondary experience; knowledge of accounting practices; knowledge of instructional technology.

CDA license and current licensure and registration with the College of Dental Surgeons of BC (or comparable organization) is required to do the full job in the Dental programs.
