Job Description:
The Dean provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership for the School of Wellness, Public Safety and Community Studies at Algonquin College’s Ottawa Campus. This role drives program excellence, supports faculty and staff, and strengthens partnerships with industry, community, and internal stakeholders to ensure outstanding student learning and employment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Community Engagement
- Lead the School’s strategic direction, program growth, and external relations.
- Build strong partnerships with industry, community groups, and advisory committees.
Academic & Program Excellence
- Oversee development, delivery, and continuous improvement of academic and continuing education programs.
- Ensure curriculum quality, effective learning strategies, and alignment with labour market needs.
- Support faculty in delivering high‑quality applied learning and student engagement.
- Lead program review, work‑integrated learning initiatives, and student advising processes.
Operational & Resource Management
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations, including facilities, labs, safety standards, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with college policies, collective agreements, and Ministry requirements.
Faculty & Staff Leadership
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff.
- Promote professional development and support positive workplace culture.
- Manage performance, workloads, and conflict resolution processes.
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Lead budget planning and monitoring across all program areas.
- Approve equipment and resource investments to support academic delivery and safety.
Continuing Education & Contract Training
- Provide leadership for CE and contract training, including program development, staffing, marketing, and financial management.
College-Wide Leadership
- Participate in college committees, strategic initiatives, and represent the College at provincial and national events.
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in business or other relevant field of study.
- 13 Years previous experience in an academic setting doing comparable activities.
- Knowledge of community college educational structure and experience in the community college environment. Knowledge of, and experience in, the following areas preferred:
- Adult Education/Curriculum development
- Program proposal development/Marketing and community linkages
- Management of budgets and human resources/ Budgeting and financial planning
- Superior interpersonal skills/ Conflict resolution
- College and Microsoft Office IT tools.
- Leadership/Working in a unionized environment.
- Experience teaching at the post secondary level is an asset.
- Experience supervising in an academic environment is an asset.
