We are seeking a Data Architect with deep expertise in Lakehouse architecture, data modeling, governance, and regulatory reporting, ideally with experience in highly regulated industries such as Energy, Utilities, Financial Services or Government.

We are seeking a Data Architect with deep expertise in Lakehouse architecture, data modeling, governance, and regulatory reporting, ideally with experience in highly regulated industries such as Energy, Utilities, Financial Services or Government.

Your future duties and responsibilities

As a Data Architect, you will be responsible for the end-to-end architecture and design of enterprise Lakehouse platforms built on Microsoft Fabric. You will define and govern Bronze, Silver, and Gold data zones with Fabric Lakehouse, establish metadata and data quality standards, and design governance structures leveraging OneLake and Microsoft Purview to enable secure, scalable analytics and regulatory reporting.

You will work closely with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, Cloud Architects, and Business Stakeholders to ensure data platforms are well-governed, performant, auditable, and aligned to business and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Lakehouse Architecture & Data Modeling

  • Architect and design Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse solutions using Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers, ensuring clear separation of ingestion, refinement, and consumption.
  • Define enterprise data models optimized for analytics, BI, and regulatory reporting.
  • Establish data design standards for schemas, naming conventions, partitioning, and performance optimization.
  • Ensure Lakehouse designs support both batch, streaming, and near real time data workloads.
  • Design integration between Fabric Lakehouse, Fabric Warehouse, and Power BI semantic models for scalable analytics consumption.

Metadata, Governance & Data Management

  • Design and implement governance models leveraging Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, and Microsoft Purview.
  • Define metadata standards, data ownership models, and lineage practices to support auditability and regulatory compliance.
  • Implement fine-grained access controls, workspace governance, and role-based access models aligned with enterprise security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with governance and risk teams to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal data policies.

Analytics & Regulatory Reporting Enablement

  • Architect Gold-layer datasets and Fabric Warehouses optimized for BI tools, regulatory submissions, and executive reporting.
  • Design Power BI–ready semantic models to support consistent metrics and trusted reporting.
  • Ensure data structures support reproducibility, traceability, and explainability of metrics.
  • Collaborate with analytics and reporting teams to align data models with business definitions and regulatory rules.
  • Support data quality monitoring, validation frameworks, and exception handling across Fabric pipelines.

Cloud & Platform Integration

  • Design Microsoft Fabric architectures integrated with Azure services (E.g. Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Key Vault, Azure Event Hubs, etc.)
  • Define ingestion patterns using Fabric Data Factory pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, and Spark notebooks
  • Ensure platform designs meet enterprise requirements for scalability, resilience, cost optimization, and operational monitoring.

Client Advisory & Delivery Leadership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to client stakeholders on Microsoft Fabric architecture, data strategy, and analytics modernization.
  • Lead architecture workshops, define target-state architectures, and produce high-quality solution design documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership across delivery teams, guiding best practices and architectural decision-making.
  • Mentor data engineers and analytics teams, contributing to CGI's Data & AI Centers of Excellence.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role Must-Have Technical Experience

  • 8–12+ years of experience in data architecture, analytics platforms, or data engineering, including: Microsoft Fabric architecture Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse, and OneLake Bronze / Silver / Gold data modeling patterns Data governance and lineage using Microsoft Purview
  • Strong experience with Azure cloud data platforms.
  • Proven experience designing data solutions that support analytics, BI, and regulatory reporting.
  • Deep understanding of data governance, metadata management, and security controls.

Industry & Regulatory Experience

  • Experience delivering data platforms in regulated industries such as Energy, Utilities, Financial Services, or Government.
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting, audit requirements, and data traceability concepts.

Leadership & Consulting Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture initiatives and guide cross-functional technical teams.
  • Strong stakeholder communication and requirements translation skills.
  • Experience producing architecture artifacts, standards, and reference designs.

Additional Assets

  • Experience with Power BI semantic models and enterprise BI architecture.
  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks and observability tools.
  • Knowledge of DevOps / DataOps practices (CI/CD for data pipelines).
  • Agile delivery experience.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) is a strong asset.
  • Microsoft Azure architecture certifications are an asset.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors including but not limited to skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $85,000 to $165,000.
