Summary of responsibilities
The Addiction and Mental Health Therapist plays a key role in relationship building with Emergency Department staff and is part of the Mental Health Crisis Team as the primary contact for children and youth who present with mental health issues. The Addiction and Mental Health Therapist provides psychosocial/risk assessment and treatment planning for children/youth and their families who are not at imminent risk of self -harm. The Addiction and Mental Health Therapist will provide brief clinical services and follow-up to high risk youth and other populations and triage to appropriate services. The Addiction and Mental Health Therapist will continue to support the implementation of an ED clinical pathway and virtual ED protocol between CCH and CHEO.
Requirements of the job

Four (4) year university degree in social sciences

Registered with a relevant Ontario College whose members may practice psychotherapy

Knowledge of community agencies
-
Demonstrated knowledge of Children’s Mental Health/crisis services
-
Minimum 3 years working experience delivering a range of psychotherapy or interventions with adults, youth and families experiencing addiction and mental health concerns
-
Good computer skills
-
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
-
Strong written and communication skills
-
Certified in Non Violent Crisis Intervention
-
Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
-
Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
-
Valid driver’s licence
-
CPR
-
Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French – and testing completed)
Assets
- Experience in a mobile crisis service
• Ability and knowledge on how to use Microsoft Windows, Word, and CERNER • Understanding of the etiological factors that contribute to substance use health and mental health
