Metrolinx is seeking a Data & Automation Specialist to join our Strategic Train Service Planning team. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong ability to diagnose and resolve issues related to script execution, system configuration, and user management. You will contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of automation tools, support simulation software platforms, and ensure reliable system operations. This is a unique opportunity to work with modern technologies like AWS, Python, and business intelligence tools in support of developing simulations models and shaping the future of transit across the region
What will I be doing?
- Designs and develops rail simulation tools to support Train Service Planning ability to make informed business decisions; researches a variety of data sources to develop usage and growth insight.
- Analyzes all available data sources to identify opportunities for performance improvement.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues related to script execution, system configuration, or user management.
- Supports TSPs with writing and modifying scripts for monitoring and automation.
- Participates in periodic reviews of simulation systems and reports with Executive Leadership team. Transferring technical details for non-technical stakeholders.
- Liaises with TSP to understand their needs proactively resolving issues and optimizing performance of the system.
- Identifies, develops, manages, and executes analytical projects designed to uncover areas of business opportunity for TSP clients and subsequently develops business recommendations.
- Uses testing period to mitigate risks and save time and money during the implementation stage.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, economics or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent
- Demonstrated experience managing AWS services, specifically LightSail, S3, Lambda, and Cognito.
- Experience with workflow design and RPA
- Experience with remote ops, AWS, API design and integration
- Expertise with Python, SQL, GitHub and front-end languages such as JavaScript.
- Oral/written/presentation communication skills to generate standard or custom reports that summarize business and/or financial data for review by executives, managers, partners, and other stakeholders
